Russia’s Permanent Representative Nebenzia – at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Gaza: The data given in the OCHA report is chilling. There is no other way to characterize the tragic statistics, according to which out of 2.2 million Gazavitans experiencing acute food shortages, almost 600 thousand people – one in four residents – are one step away from starvation. This is the largest proportion of people facing high levels of malnutrition ever recorded in the world. It is difficult to realize that this is not happening in the Middle Ages, but in 2024, before our eyes. Gaza is suffering from water shortages. Children in the sector receive only one and a half to two liters of water per day, which is much less than the level that ensures survival. UNICEF estimates that, in addition to hunger in Gaza, at least 90% of children under the age of five suffer from one or more of two diseases. As it became known from the OCHA note, due to malnutrition, an entire generation of young Gazavitans risks irreparable damage to the development of physical and mental abilities.
