This is a live recording of the annual Edison Gala, 28 September 1993 by Dutch singer Mathilde Santing. Mathilde Santing was born in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. Her father was a pilot with the KLM and her mother teacher. At home the family was always listening to music. For the young Mathilde a special music room and dance floor was made where she could listen to the music of her tape recorder. At the age of 5 she went to music lessons at the Amstelveen Music School. From her 11th to the 19th she went to singing lessons with Elisabeth Ooms. During her high school years she played in various bands. First as Mathilde Eleveld, but later as Mathilde Santing, after her mother’s maiden name. She gained national fame in 1981 through her performances in the television program ’Sonja Op Maandag’ by Sonja Barend. Her album debut came in 1982, with songs by, among others, Rodgers & Hart, Port Gillespie and Todd Rundgren. In 1986 she won the BV Popprijs at Noorderslag in Groningen. She was the first artist to win this award. In 1993 the album Texas Girl & Pretty Boy was released, on which Santing played 14 songs by Randy Newman.
