We kicked PRAY FOR SPEED off with the mellower of the 3 descents, easing into the tour a little. The 74, or Pines to Palms Highway, runs down the west side of Mt. San Jacinto, and while it doesn't have steep gradients you're still able to clock fast speeds. The bends are open and sweeping, no surprises here besides the odd strip of raised tarmac. It's an all out pedal up on the first half before you're rewarded for your work with minutes of super smooth supertucking down into the valley. A perfect start to the trip. I don't think I touched the brakes once until pulling off the road to stop.
