🔘MANILLA ROAD is one of those bands that were never appreciated properly, although over time they have gained notoriety and, above all, very loyal fans. Not only have they been one of the oldest Power Metal bands (one could say the first, taking into account that they were active since 1977), but they have also had an impeccable discography with an enviable evolution: the band has always known how to adapt to the current times, starting as a band closer to Space and Seventies Hard Rock, but with an important metallic shell as they demonstrated in their debut album “Invasion“ and then continuing to harden their sound with “Metal“ to finally give the definitive leap with “Crystal Logic“, perhaps their most iconic album, with an already completely metallic sound, but retaining more traditional rock overtones, resulting in a splendid work with immortal anthems such as “Necropolis“ and “Crystal Logic“. However, for Shelton “the restless ass“ was never enough, he wanted to sound more “metal“, louder, more powerful and that is clearly reflected in the group's trajectory in albums like “The Deluge“ that took it one step higher. what was already shown in the magnificent “Open the Gates“, adding Thrashers influences, which would later be consolidated even more in “Mystification“ where they have directly Thrashers songs like “Up From the Crypt“. One of the things that most characterizes MANILLA ROAD are his style, both sonorous and lyrical of an epic nature. In fact, the band were the first to use the term “Epic Heavy Metal.“ The group's lyrics are very rich and have multiple references to the world of music. literature. Shelton is a regular reader and books are one of his biggest hobbies. “The Shark“ has several influences ranging from ancient poems by Homer and Virgil, the work of illustrious figures such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Are you familiar with a certain Sherlock?), Edgar Allan Poe, H.P Lovecraft to Robert E. Howard, creator of characters such as the iconic Conan the Barbarian or Kull from Atlantis, the latter being a large part of the Mark Shelton's inspiration when writing concept albums like “The Deluge“, focused on the lost city of Atlantis.
