Таривердиев,_Микаэл_Леонович ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Daniel Murtagh ( ) was introduced to photography by his older brother who taught him how to develop film and make prints. After a year at Russell Sage college in Albany, Daniel was accepted at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn New York, where he majored in Photography. Daniel's interest in Photography was rooted in other art forms, it was films by the likes of Bergman and Orson Welles that awoke him to shadow and light. Later, the paintings of Rembrandt, Carravagio, Rossetti, Klimt and Vermeer gave him a sense of composition. In 1986 Murtagh traveled to Paris and spent months shooting there. It would be the beginning of a style. This vision was to coalesce in New Mexico, where he lived for two years upon his graduation. Later he moved to San Francisco, where he spent the next 7 years building an extensive body of work. It was an inspired and prolific period. Commercial photography beckoned, and he began to get editorial magazine work and exhibiting work. In 2002 Daniel settled in Manhattan, by the fall of 2005 he had made five films, as well as a music video. Music was a second calling. He scored all of his own films, and continues to make music. He has exhibited his work in Manhattan, Portland, Oregon, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and in Saratoga Springs, NY. His work has been published in magazines like Elle, PhotoIcon, American Photographer, San Francisco Magazine, Men's Journal Health, Soma, and Hippocrates. His work has been exhibited in New York at Fredric Friends Gallery and continues to show at Whitney Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
