Bu-yah is an affirmation of the great Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers. Known as “Bu“, Blakey trained many of the great jazz artists over the decades. This chart features Blakey's famous front line of trumpet, tenor, and trombone and a swinging minor blues in Cm at a very accessible of open solo space for everyone to play, as well as a unison bebop interlude to break things up a bit. Backgrounds are provided for all sections, and students are encouraged to make up their own, too. A 24 bar shout chorus swings its way to a little more blowing (think modal dixieland) before the ensemble takes over to wrap up the proceedings. Trumpet range to written high C (Optional C#). Trombone range to F.
