Hello there! Today we're diving into the physics of a railgun! How much current do you need to operate one? To answer that, we're taking a look at a railgun sniper rifle from the game Planetside 2! What do you want me to study next? Tell me in the comments! You can also catch me live at ! Notes : 1) There's a mistake (there had to be one getting through the cracks, I suppose...) : When I apply the formula for the current, I use the diameter of the rails instead of the radius. Instead of plugging in 7mm, I should have pluged in . The corrected result is then 155kA. (Thanks u/Vulturay on Reddit). 2) I forgot to mention the muzzle velocity of the RailJack. In the game, the muzzle velocity of the rifle is 850m/s (you need that info to calculate the current). 3) The result obtained is consistent with the result obtained from the Python simulation you can find here : 4)
