On Sunday morning, two strong earthquakes struck the coast of Papua New Guinea. There was no threat of a tsunami. The first earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred at 06:22 local time, 84 km from the city of Wewak. A second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 occurred a minute later, 93 km from the city of Wewak. Later, numerous aftershocks were recorded. The tremors were strongly felt in East Sepik province, as well as in cities in neighboring provinces. In addition, tremors were also felt in the capital of Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby. Several buildings received minor damage. There were no reports of casualties. East Sepik is a province of Papua New Guinea, located in the northwestern part of the country. The administrative center is the city of Wewak.
