Five people have been killed after the parachute on an aid package dropped over Gaza failed to open, resulting in the package crashing into a crowd of people. The crowd was waiting for food near Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp on Friday. The casualties were later confirmed by Gaza’s government media office, which called the airdrops ‘flashy propaganda rather than a humanitarian service,’ and called for land deliveries instead, currently made extremely difficult by Israeli blockades. ‘We previously warned it poses a threat to the lives of citizens in the Gaza Strip and this is what happened today when the parcels fell on the citizens’ heads,’ the office said in a statement.
