We are Ian Fontova and Iñigo Saenz (Tartalo Music), two young musicians and composers focused on creating Epic Celtic, Medieval and Basque folk music. Back in 2019, we started playing music in the streets of different towns of the Pyrenees and decided to record some of the sets we used to play as our first collaborative album. This release contains six new epic folk arrangements, five acoustic versions, and one instrumental bonus track. Izei (Fir in the Basque language) is the name we chose for the album as we ended our musical trip in the 'Gerdar Forest', the biggest fir forest of the Iberian peninsula. FITAK ABIAN: Its name comes from the fusion of the Basque terms 'abian', meaning 'on the move' and 'fitak', meaning 'reeds', since the main instruments of this track are the Basque alboka and the Catalan Gralla, both being reed instruments. The track is a blend of two Basque tunes, being the first composed by 'Karlos Subijana' for his band 'Parradust', and the second a personal arrangement of a traditional melody called 'buelta bikoa'. ERESIA: It is the epic instrumental version of the bard song we composed to announce the crowdfunding of this album :) TXISTU EGIN: The arrangement starts with a traditional Basque song called 'Atzo Goizean' (yesterday morning) and is followed by a traditional dance tune,'Imotzeko esku-dantza' (hand-dance of Imotz). The name 'Txistu Egin' (to whistle) was chosen since the first song speaks about the whistle of the thrush in the morning and because we used to ask the audience to whistle along with us in some rhythmic parts of the tune. ADRIREN ZAIN: This track is also a set of three tunes comprised of an Irish slow air called 'Amhrán na Leabhar' (also known as 'The Song of the Books'), and two Breton tunes; 'An Dro' and 'Son ar Chistr' (song of the cider, also know as 'Ev Chistr Ta Laou'). We used to play this set with our friend Adrià Carrasco, who had to exile to Belgium due to political persecution from the Spanish State. We had him in our thoughts while playing this set so we decided to name it 'Adriren Zain' (waiting for Adri). URTXELL: The title references a possible etymological (connected to the Basque language) origin of the actual name of 'La Seu d'Urgell', one of the towns in which we played during our trip and where we were warmly welcomed by its people. We felt so in love with the town and the locals that we decided to name this set after it. The arrangement includes three traditional Irish tunes named 'Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore', 'The Battle of Aughrim' and 'Lord Mayo'. AZERIARI: This set is comprised of a traditional Irish slip jig called 'The kid in the mountain', the so-known 'Morrison's Jig' and a Reel composed by Tartalo Music called 'Andraste'. We decided to name the track Azeriari, meaning 'To the Fox' in the Basque language, since the first day we started rehearsing this tune in the Montseny mountain, a fox appeared and stayed in front of us while we played the whole set. 🌀 Basque Folk Music: ⚔️ More Epic Celtic Music: 🏰 More Epic Medieval Music: 🐲 More Celtic Fantasy Music: 🍀 More Celtic Music: 🧡 Support me on Patreon: 🔴 Subscribe to my channel: 💿 Buy Physical CDs: 👕 Buy Merchandising: Download my music \\ ▶ iTunes: ▶ Amazon: ▶ Google play: ▶ Bandcamp: Stream my music \\ ▶ Spotify: ▶ Apple Music: ▶ Amazon Music: ▶ Google Play Music: ▶ Tidal: ▶ Deezer:
