The world's first long bridge, the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge in China, is not well-known among most Chinese people because it is primarily a railway bridge. The bridge is part of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed Railway and spans a total length of km. The construction of the bridge, costing 30 billion yuan and using over 4,500 900-ton box girders, was completed in 2011. While the bridge holds the Guinness World Record for the longest bridge globally, its lack of fame among the Chinese public is due to the fact that people don't pay much attention to the specific sections and bridges when traveling by train. The main reason for building this bridge was to facilitate railway transportation and connect the cities of Danyang, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, and Kunshan.
