The most modified F-15 Ever Built | The story of Aircraft 837: PilotPhotog Merch Store! ***Update video with additional info: *** The F-15 given serial number 71-0290 had perhaps the most diverse range of duties of any F-15 ever built. Having first flown in 1973, it was the first two seat F-15 Eagle, and sixth F-15 built by McDonnell Douglas and was initially designated as a TF-15. The aircraft would go on to serve as a trainer, a testbed for the F-15E strike eagle, a technology demonstrator, and even a NASA research aircraft for several programs at the same time as the F16XL. Fun fact: This F-15 used F18 stabilator as canards, and performed supercruise research. We will look at all of those roles today but first let's take a look at the specifications of this airplane during its service with the NASA ACTIVE program: Specifications Length: 63 FT 8 IN ( M) Height: 18 FT 6 IN ( M) Wingspan: 42 FT 10 in (13 M) Canard span: 25 FT 7 IN ( M) Horizontal tail span: 28 FT 3 IN ( M) Maximum speed: 1,522 MPH (2,450 KMH, 1,323 KN) Mach 2 Empty weight: 35,000 LB (15,876 KG) Takeoff weight: 47,000 LB (21,319 KG) Service Ceiling: 60,000 FT (18,288 M) Engine Thrust Class (each) Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 turbofan engines, equipped with Pratt & Whitney P/YBBN three-dimensional thrust vectoring nozzles: 17,800 lbf (79 kN) thrust dry 29,000 lbf (130 kN) with afterburner Subscribe on Patreon: Patrons and channel members get early access to ad free videos Follow me on other social media: 📸 Instagram - 📖Facebook - 🐦Twitter - 👾Twitch: 🎮 Discord: Design support provided by BVR: For those asking where 837 is today: @,,79m/data=!3m1!1e3 Credits/Attributions: “The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) visual information does not imply or constitute DoD endorsement.“ NASA footage and photos: 71-290 photography in standard USAF Livery photos: Photographers: Richard Lockett and Brain Lockett Music from “Hiding Your Reality“ by Kevin MacLeod () License: CC BY () This video is an opinion editorial commentary.
