The irresistible attraction of the piano and the seductions of Romanticism had relegated the harpsichord to the status of a relic of a bygone era and reduced the richness of its immense repertoire to a mere field of musicological investigation. In the early years of the following century, a new interest began to emerge in this so-called early music, written for orchestra, voice and organ. However, it was not until the pioneer Wanda Landowska that the harpsichord awoke to a second existence. Thanks to her, an essential part of Western musical history found its original rhythms and colours on instruments close to the ones that saw its birth. Better still, Wanda Landowska inspired the composition of new works for her instrument, thus unexpectedly acclimatising the ancient plucked strings to the language of the creators of her time. She also gave rise to an entire generation of harpsichordists, each of whom, in his or her own way, continued her aesthetic adventure and led to the rediscovery of the entire Baroque literature.
