Already our current decade has seen a disproportionate amount of strife we were barely at the beginning of it. Just as we were starting to see some light at the end of the “plague“ then the real bogey that lurks in the shadows showed itself. We take no comfort in that the most devastating virus to plague our civilization this decade is not Covid it is misinformation. What Have You Done? At the beginning of composing the song we had a feeling it was going to be the albums closing three movements that carry you through to it's musical conclusion mirrored real life for us in a profound way. The song is an ode to despair. A dark reminder that like Icarus we are all fallible and prone to misdeeds. Hopefully that light at the end of the tunnel we thought we were seeing can make it's way to us and shine a light into a brighter future. How Can i forgive these lies that they've been telling us that we've believed so long and now that i alone must carry on maybe someday we'll see the light and that our struggles weren't in vain and all that is real, will find you my friend i tried to warn you this time but even i couldn't reach you What have you done? You know you had it all, then you threw it all away What have you done? Was there no other way, you know we're all on borrowed time and it's over now... Tell me what have you done. How can i forgive you, when every word sends you further down and everyone's a stranger When you let only leeches and fools come around those dark thoughts can't torture your mind if only you let them in sometimes they'll open our eyes and show us what could be sometimes they'll open our minds to things that we couldn't see and all that is real, will find you my friend i tried to warn you this time but nothing could change your mind What have you done? You know you had it all, then you threw it all away What have you done? Was there no other way, you know we're all on borrowed time and it's over now... Tell me what have you done. You work so hard to find yourself and always sacrifice the ones that love you They love you Then time plays it's descending lines, the cadence reveals that no one really cares... Waiting alone in that final room with loving left to give will they still love you? Will they still love you... When all the glamour is gone and the years have faded, in your final hours will anyone be there... So much for your sacred act of sympathy here's to the years that you have thrown away, that we may never see them again. You chose to live the day in infamy, maybe when all the scars have healed and what you have done has faded away... We'll fight on another day. What will it take to see the light again? After all you still don't see, what you have done. What have you done? What have you done? (c) 2023 Deathwave Records & Nocturnes and Requiems ASCAP Witherfall was formed in Los Angeles in 2013. Joseph Michael (also of Sanctuary fame) and Jake Dreyer (ex-Iced Earth/Demons & Wizards) built their new band around drummer Adam Sagan (RIP) and accomplished bassist Anthony Crawford (Allan Holdsworth, CHON). Since then, the group have released three highly regarded albums: Nocturnes and Requiems (2017), A Prelude to Sorrow (2018), and Curse of Autumn (2021) and an ep Vintage (2019). Not one to cut corners, Witherfall enlisted famed drummer Marco Minnemann (The Aristocrats, Steven Wilson) on Curse of Autumn, ensuring the foundations of singles “As I Lie Awake,” “The Other Side of Fear,” and “The River” were second to none. On the new album Minnemann returns to the fold with an album-only appearance, while drummer Chris Tsaganeas (Wax Owls) and multi-instrumentalist Gerry Hirschfeld (Willie Nelson) Witherfall’s newest permanent members...
