When it was revealed Melania Trump had penned a fierce defence of abortion rights in her upcoming tell-all memoir, her husband’s sect of staunch pro-life supporters were dumbfounded. Here, the wife of a man heralded for helping overturn Roe v Wade - the biggest win for anti-abortion activists in more than half a century - was pouring petrol over and holding a match to all of his work. Leading pro-life activist Kristian Hawkins said it was “hard to follow the logic” of the former first lady releasing a book “undercutting” her husband’s message to pro-life voters, with just weeks to go before the election. But far from being an accidental faux pas or a sharp stiletto to the heart of her husband’s campaign, Mrs Trump’s memoir may be a carefully thought-out asset to boost the Republican candidate one month before polling day.
