In February 2021, I took part in a self-supported brevet event riding the Kōpiko Aotearoa – a newly created 1,100km bikepacking route across the North Island of New Zealand. This is a summary of my experience and a love letter to bike travel, more generally. Thanks to the Kennett brothers, for establishing such a dope ride and brevet event, and to the many locals and other bikepackers that made this ride so special.
