I love shooting, and I developed a passion for competing too. It tests you, it pushes you. You can learn a lot. With IPSC I found a very appealing format to do so. Very well organized, a very cool format, a very interesting and practical scoring system and a lot of different divisions and weapon categories, that really keeps you busy. Last year however, Polenar Tactical announced to host a “brutality“ type event, which I haven't heard of before but somehow got me interested. I couln't make it last year, because it wasn't too high on my priority list (what a shame) and did not have the resources to make it happen in time. Afterwards however, watching Ian McCollums videos really hyped me for 2023 and I really wanted to be there for 2023! During 2023, I started some collaborations with Sapiens Para Bellum and coming from different worlds, we made a IPSC vs. Tactical shooter on an IPSC Course video (highly recommended: ) that becam quite popular. At the time, we were also thinking about a reverse competition, where I shot against him in a “tactical“ environment but we didn't had a specific format in mind yet. Then came the announcement of Lynx Brutality 2023. We both organized tickets independently of another (big thanks to Brownells!) and then created the ideo of using this match for a “reverse“ competition. Time was not on our side, but we managed to do a little bit of preperation together and each one of us independently. I wasn't too worried about the shooting part, but instead focused on the physical and mental part (pushing and keeping going when it gets tough). Should have done more pistol work, as you've probably seen (stage 10) but everything else went pretty fine. It was also quite a bit of a challenge to get all the equipment in time, set everything up so it's functional and not just cool looking, and also get a little bit of training time in and get used to all the additional weight and movement restrictions. Especially stock placement with a plate carrier is limiting. But fortunately I got everything in time. So... how did the main event go? Well, long story short: AWESOME! The Lynx Pro Training facility is really impressive! Organisation was very well done, all the ROs were extremely friendly and helpful and also the atmosphere within our squad was very good and really supportive. Everybody motivated and cheered to the one performaing and congratulated after good performances! The stages were nicely built and quite creative and interesting. The shooting part was really important too, and the penalties for overtime, misses and noshoots were quite brutal, but also the physical part became quite important, especially towards the middle or last third of a stage, where you started to become uncomfortable to some extend and needed to both fight but also stay focused to avoid injuries, misses or safety violations! Having the gunhandling routines from IPSC really helped me there, but spending a bit more time familiarizing with my equipment wouldn't have hurt fore sure. I was pretty happy with my performance on all but one stage, and it added up to a third place in the armored division! This came pretty unexpected, but was a welcom surprise! But ontop of that I really had a blast on this event, met some really cool people and made some very cool memories and experiences! Will see you there next year too!!
