Today you will see me take care of a single mother's overgrown lawn. This lady had her lawn mower and gardening equipment stolen out of her garage early in the year. Neighbors and friends have been taking care of the front yard, but she reached out to see if I could help get her backyard back into shape as it hasn’t been cut ALL YEAR. This lawn was one of the most out of control that I have ever dealt with. The grass in the back was up to 4 foot in places. It was thick and wet, but nothing that my Scag Vride II couldn’t handle. I started off this video by cutting back the overgrown edges with my Echo PE-225 Edger. This is a residential grade stick edger but does a great job for what I need it for! While cutting back the edges, there were spots that were grown over the cement a bit too much, so I took my Kobalt garden shovel to dig them up and make the edges look perfect. After this, I raked the large debris and chunks from edging into a pile to prepare for mowing. Sadly, I only got the first half of the front yard done before my camera died. I decided to go ahead and finish mowing, trimming, and blowing her front yard so that I could return 2 days later to tackle the JUNGLE! When I showed up 2 days later, I immediately prepared for mowing the backyard. I gassed up my Scag VRide II, got my Rubbermaid BRUTE Commercial Trash Can (THIS THING IS A BEAST) and the Accelerator Bagger for my mower. As you can see, when I brought the mower through the back gate, it fit perfectly. 36” stand on mowers are the way to go for small residential yards. I began by side discharging with my Scag at 4.5”, which is the highest setting it will go. I mowed over the grass very slowly the first time and switched directions to go over it again. There were a TON of clippings. They were being thrown all over the fence and there were piles by the time I got finished. Next, I decided to do the most satisfying part of the video (I think) which is trimming/weedeating. As a professional in the lawn care world, I wanted to leave the yard as perfect as possible. I really take pride in my work. To do this, I did the trimming first and then the bagging so that I could also collect the clippings created from the weedeater. For the trimming, I used my commercial grade ECHO SRM-2620T. I chose this model because it has the most torque and easily slices through the grass. There was one section along the fence that the grass clippings piled up so much that I had to go back and clear them out with my ECHO PB-9010T Backpack Blower. This machine made quick work of the clippings so that I could get back to finishing the trimming. Finally, I attached the bag to my mower and went over the lawn multiple times to pick up as many clippings as possible. As you may notice, I didn’t make perfect lines with my mower. I did this on purpose because as my mower went through the grass, the tires were compressing the piles of clippings, making them harder to bag. So, to avoid this, I made sure the center of the deck went over each part to get the most suction to pull up the clippings. Overall, I ended with around five 55 gallon trash bags of clippings. This lady was ecstatic at the lawns transformation. She was even more shocked that I did it absolutely free of charge, especially with how overgrown it was. Doing this made my heart happy and I was glad that I was able to help someone out. I hope to do more of these overgrown lawn makeover videos soon and spread some good in the world (especially now because we really need it).
