Girolamo Frescobaldi “Aria detta la Frescobalda“ from “Toccate et canzoni, libro secondo“ (1637). The “Aria“ is first known set of variation on an original theme. There was a tradition to compose variation on well-known (anonym-folk) themes like “Folia“ or “Romanesca“ and Frescobaldi was the first who broke this rule and take his own theme. Transcribed for lute and played by Konstantin Shchenikov.
