Norman Smith (February 22, 1923 - March 3, 2008) began his music career as a jazz musician. He joined EMI as a sound engineer in 1959. Norman engineered all of the EMI studio recordings by The Beatles until 1965; the last Beatles' album he recorded was Rubber Soul. Norman then began working with Pink Floyd as a producer in 1967; he produced The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, A Saucerful Of Secrets, and Ummagumma. In 1971 Norman began his own recording career and adopted the stage name of Hurricane Smith. He had a Cash Box No.1 single in 1972 with “Oh Babe What Would You Say“. Other hits included “Who Was It“, and “Don't Let It Die“ which reached No. 2 on the U.K. singles chart in 1971.
