The Cupra DarkRebel concept car, unveiled yesterday at the Munich Motor Show, is a two-seat electric sports car similar in size to the new Nissan Z and possibly a competitor. However, the rear of the car borrows design cues from the estate - similar to the Volkswagen Scirocco - to enhance the car's flexibility and practicality. Key details such as electric motor power, battery capacity and range have not been revealed, presumably as these details are still far from being revealed. The interior, dominated by large digital displays and futuristic design themes, is designed to appeal to the “gaming” generation of drivers. Cupra chief executive Sven Schuwirth said that as a new brand the company was free to experiment with new designs and new ideas. “We need to challenge the status quo and target a different audience,” Mr. Schuwirth said. “About a billion members of Generation Z are interested in motorsports. But three or four times as many people are interested in games. “Why? Shouldn't we unite both worlds?“ This explains why the Cupra DarkRebel features AI-style graphics on the instrument cluster and dashboard. And the driver's seat looks like a racing simulator game console. While this is just a flight of fancy at this point, it shows what Cupra's thinking is all about. Other innovations that may or may not eventually make it to production include headlights that are invisible when turned off but appear through the paintwork when turned on. Although it's hard to tell the difference in these photos, the Cupra DarkRebel is similar in size to the Nissan Z coupe. The company says the concept vehicle is 4.5 meters long, 2.2 meters wide and 1.3 meters high, although with the scissor doors open the height is 2.2 meters (taller than the Toyota HiAce van).
