Investment casting, also known as precision casting or lost wax casting, is a process in which a precise fusible model is made of fusible materials (wax and plastic, etc.), several layers of refractory coating are applied to the model, which is dried and hardened into an integral shell. The shell is then heated to melt the model, and then sintered at high temperature to become a refractory shell. Liquid metal is poured into the shell, and it becomes a casting after cooling.
