This project is the first video that follows a project documented at - basically, an ongoing attempt to create a bass that sounds like a Wal. On the one hand, we have a Wal Mark 1, with rosewood board, mahogany body, and walnut facings. One the other had, a Fender Precision which has been significantly modded. Alder body, rosewood board, Turner multicoil pickups, and an ACG EQ-01 preamp. Both basses have the same pickup spacing - I replicated the Wal Mark 1 pickup spacing on the Precision. Both basses strung with same gauge Ernie Ball Slinkies (Nickels). Both have minimal neck relief and same setups - approx 5/64” on E string at 12th fret and 4/64” at same spot on G string. Signal chain is both basses direct into RME Fireface 400 - Reaper (no effects in recording chain) - Waves L1 Maximizer (set to avoid clipping in video). That’s it.
