I remember the solemness I felt when news of the death of JFK came out. I was only four and I can distinctly remember his televised funeral on a black and white TV. My mom and I watched it together. All the voices here, the first time I heard them, I instantly felt a personal connection. I grew up with JFK, RFK and MLK on the TV and on the radio, so I knew about them because of their positive messages, so their loss was profoundly felt. Then Timmy Thomas comes along with that plaintive Hammond organ around the same time that Marvin Gaye beautifully embraced the social issues of the day with “What's Going On“ . This started off as a Timmy Thomas only remix, but I got a hold of Marvin's vocals and weaved that in after the famous speeches. This moves me, I hope it moves you.
