This short video shows an Australian male Variegated Fairy-wren taking a bath during a hot Sydney summer day. The bath is located next to thick shrubs so that the Variegated Fairy-wren and the White-browed Scrubwren (also in the footage) can quickly take cover if threatened - but slightly in the open as well so they can see any approaching danger. He gradually develops his confidence to spend more time in the water. Note the beautiful chestnut and purple colours of the Variegated Fairy-wren and the Correa reflexa (a great food source and habitat for small Aussie birds) in the background.
