She has taught dance across Lebanon and is now Associate Professor of Dance at the Lebanese American University (LAU) and was previously a judge on the oriental dance competition show “Hezzi Ya Nawa'em”. In this Sarde, we spoke about the following: - The history of oriental dance more commonly known as “Belly Dancing” - Arab society’s cultural norms have affected dance between and among Men & Women - The different kinds of Dabke (social dance) in Lebanon - Oriental dance techniques across the Middle East - The difference between Contemporary & Modern dance Sarde (noun), [Sa-r-de]: A colloquial term used in the Middle East to describe the act of letting go & kicking off a stream of consciousness and a rambling narrative.
