If you're looking for an analog drum machine without breaking the bank, you have lots of options. Both vintage and modern. I've put three very good one up against each other. The Behringer RD-6, a clone (a very good one too) of the Roland TR-606 (Drumatix), the Boss DR-110 with it's famous clap, and the Korg Kr-55. They sound different, they operate different and they have different set of features so they can both compliment each other nicely, but they can also handle the beats all on their own. To make it a fair fight I programmed the Behringer and the Boss to sound like one the preset patterns of the Korg, since that cannot be programmed. To give a musical context I made two extra tracks of music to each, bass and synth to get some early 80s synthpop going. All played live, there's no MIDI on either the Boss or the Korg, but both of these can output a sync signal to sync up or trigger other gear. The bass is a Sequential Six-Trak and the synth is a Korg Poly-61. I played all the tracks three times each. L
