On Reverb: The MXR Poly Blue Octave is a multi-functional box capable of both vintage Blue Box and modern pitch-shifting effects, not to mention fuzz and modulation that can be used in conjunction or on their own. 5 individual levels including the Dry signal, allow you to mix and match to your heart’s content, whether you want organ tones, classic fuzz, Octavio or glitchy mono synth tones. Think of the Mono button dividing the Poly Blue into two worlds: Monophonic and Polyphonic. With the Mono LED illuminated, you’ll hear warm, immediate sub octave effects that track tightly with single notes while octave up voices reproduce the clang and ring mod overtones of the very first Octavio. Fuzz can be applied to either mode and a clever push and hold of the Fuzz button and turning the Dry level will adjust the Fuzz Volume, which you can promptly save. The Polyphonic world is much more polished and able to track full chords and bends whether you have one octave or all 4 dialed up. The Mod effect changes along with the Mono/Poly selection, from a Phase 90 effect in Mono to the Leslie-style vibrato in Polyphonic. The Mod knob adjusts the rate and will bypass any modulation when set to minimum. To take full advantage of all this control, an expression pedal can be used to gradually morph between two completely different settings-- including Mod rate/bypass, Oct levels, Fuzz engage and Mono/ Poly modes. Alternatively, a footswitch like the MXR Tap can activate the Fuzz with a single press or with a double tap, change between Mono/Poly modes. The MXR Poly Blue Octave delivers just about every octave effect you can dream up and it’s all housed in a classic MXR enclosure.
