An annual fire festival, celebrating Shetland’s Norse heritage, has come to an 'emotional' end for the year. Up Helly Aa is held on the last Tuesday in January in Lerwick, the main town in the island group. During the festival, members don Viking-style clothing as more than 1,000 torches are lit on the day. This year’s event took place on January 30, with festivities beginning from and continuing well into the night.
