L'Euridice, the earliest surviving opera, in its original version, as it was premiered in Florence on October 6, 1600, with music by Jacopo Peri and Giulio Caccini, is here performed live with period instruments on October 6, 2000, by students and guests at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, directed by John Walter Hill. The performance took place as part of an international conference commemorating the 400th anniversary of the birth of opera. The scholarly papers presented at the conference are published online in The Journal of Seventeenth‒Century Music,
