Leading-edge tubercles can redistribute the blade surface pressure distribution and create counter-rotating stream-wise vortices which can compartmentalise the sheet cavitation development on propeller blades and improve propulsive efficiency in heavy-cavitating conditions. This animation shows the fundamental flow behaviour of the tubercles where the cavitation over the blades is shown, the redistribution of the cavitation and how this correlates to the vortex pairs induced by the tubercles. I will be discussing such phenomenon at the upcoming international OMAE conference where there will be a live Q & A session for our paper (Stark and Shi) so please feel free to drop me any queries if you are interested in learning more.
