Dr. Ver Halen attended the University of California at Los Angeles, majoring in both English Literature and Biochemistry. He achieved varsity letters in swimming and crew and earned a position on the U.S. Men’s National Lightweight Crew team. He graduated with College Honors, Magna Cum Laude, awards for Excellence in Biochemistry, and a number of grants (including an Ahmanson Fellowship in Humanities, and the Dunn Prize for Excellence in Biochemistry). Dr. Ver Halen was accepted on an academic scholarship to Harvard Medical School. He was part of the prestigious group who earned degrees from both Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Ver Halen attended the University of Washington for residency training, where he received training in all aspects of plastic surgery. He then went on to further his education by receiving additional training at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. At MD Anderson Cancer Center, he met his wife, Elaine Ver Halen. Dr. Ver Halen and his wife, Elaine Ver Halen, and their two children live in the Dallas Fort Worth Area.
