The 2024 Cathedral Organ Recital Series welcomes first-rate organists to play Truro’s acclaimed Father Willis Organ. This week we welcome Michael Hoeg. This recital will be live-streamed from 13:10. Michael Hoeg studied at the Royal Academy of Music under Martindale Sidwell, Eric Thiman, Thurston Dart and Eric Fenby, later going on to London University and Trinity College, Dublin. After further studies with Martin Neary and Timothy Farrell and after holding the appointment of Head of Music at Queen’s School, Bushey, he was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at Londonderry Cathedral in 1972. In 1980, he moved to Llandaff where he was Assistant Organist at the cathedral and director of music at the cathedral school. He has toured Holland, Sweden, Guernsey, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, America, France, the Czech Republic, Italy and Singapore as solo organist, pianist, conductor and accompanist. He has made many recordings and has written books on extra-curricular music in schools and on the music of Londonderry Cathedral. Among his past pupils are conductor David Jones, Edward Jones, Director of Music at Harvard College Chapel, USA and Charlotte Church. He has been given the Archbishop of Wales Award for Church Music and was awarded the MBE for his work at Llandaff.
