Don “Campbellock” Campbell, a legend, a friend, and an inspiration. Don invented the “Campbellock” better known as Locking, a style that became one of the first street dances to gain widespread attention. In 1973 Don Campbell, Fred Berry, and Toni Basil formed the Campbellockers with five other dancers. The group later shortened the name to The Lockers, they appeared on TV and live performances, the Grammys, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, and opened for Frank Sinatra at Carnegie Hall. Don was honored as the recipient of Hip Hop International’s first “Living Legend of Hip Hop” Award in 2005. Year after year thereafter Hip Hop International was honored with the presence of Don “Campbellock” Campbell at HHI’s World Battles. Beloved by all, Don cherished the dance he created, and he lovingly shared it and his lifelong journey with all dancers and attendees. We miss his larger-than-life persona, smile, and presence but the memory of our friend and mentor will live in our hearts forever. Follow
