It’s been 22 years since one of the worst terrorist attacks in history in the United States. On September 11, 2001, nineteen suicide bombers of al-Qaeda* hijacked four passenger planes. Two targeted the 110-storey Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City. A third slammed into the Pentagon, in Washington, D.C. A fourth crashed near Pittsburgh. Nearly 3,000 people were killed. The Taliban in Afghanistan refused to extradite Osama bin Laden, the primary mastermind of the terror attack, to the United States. This led America to declare a ’War on Terror’ that lasted long years. The American troops withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021. They failed to eliminate the Taliban; many claim they did far more harm than good. What’s left after the US departure? Learn more in the video, taken from our documentary ‘Afghanistan after the US’.
