SOLD Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1999 Harley-Davidson Road King Police FLHPI! Harley-Davidson introduced the FL model designation in 1941 which applied mostly to large-framed touring bikes and has had every evolution of the Harley V-Twin installed since the knucklehead. Big framed touring bikes are Harley-Davidson's bestselling models in which the latest developments usually find their way onto Harley's bestselling models first. A revolutionary development occurred for the 1999 model year which saw the release of the new Twin Cam 88ci fuel injected engine, in which development started in 1992, to replace the Evolution 80ci engine. This new Twin Cam 88 was a such a radical departure from the outgoing Evolution 80ci engine, which incorporated a single camshaft with overhead valves tracing its roots back to 1936, that only 18 components are shared between the two powerplants and addressed the Evolution 80's problems such as structural crankcase weaknesses, oil circulation, and leakages. This new 1,450cc Twin Cam architecture produced 86 lb. ft. of torque which was a 25% power increase over the 69 lb. ft. of torque produced by the 1,340cc Evolution architecture. Finished in Birch White, this 1999 Road King Police is a specialized version intended for law enforcement usage. Harley-Davidson offered the same version to the public, without all the trappings of an official police bike, which afforded civilian riders the same experience of the law enforcement bike. Equipped with a wind screen, dual front mounted auxiliary lights, and twin fiberglass saddle bags; these Road King Police bikes are all business with the same official look of the hog your local Highway Patrol officers are riding. Aside for a couple small areas on the bike calling out the “Police“ script on the air cleaner lid and center of the hand bar, these models are devoid of any other badging. It is overall in particularly good condition with just a handful of minor imperfections central to the fiberglass saddlebags and the seat as depicted. This is a 2-owner bike in which the 2nd owner purchased this Harley from the original owner on 6/8/2000 with a reported 2,238 miles. We purchased it from the 2nd owner of Redford, Michigan on 10/20/2021 with 16,881 miles. It is in excellent mechanical condition and is ready to be enjoyed.
