Ural Opera Ballet — this is the newly adopted name of the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, reflecting contemporary trends. Enhanced by architectural lighting, the building has embraced a fresh appearance while honoring its rich history and architecture. Inspired by the Vienna Opera project, the theatre has been enchanting both residents and visitors of the Urals with its beauty and elegance for a century. The façade is adorned with Baroque stucco, intricately designed brackets, and a sculptural trio of muses gracing the main entrance. The theatre holds a special place in the hearts of the locals and stands as a significant landmark in the city. According to local folklore, it was on this stage that the young Maya Plisetskaya first performed the iconic Dying Swan during the Great Patriotic War. In crafting the lighting concept, a delicate balance was required between the theatre’s historical essence, its architectural features, modern trends, and a new stylistic approach. The theatre’s new evening aesthetic embodies modern classicism. We enhanced the traditional lighting design with subtle colour accents on key elements of the composition. Coloured lighting is vital to the theatre’s ambiance, necessitating a harmonious blend of colours with the classical architecture of the building. Through careful modeling, a palette of three primary shades was selected: gold, purple, and azure, which is the theatre’s signature colours according to its brand guidelines.
