PART 1 The Edinburgh Film Festival 2017, THE THE had a mini festival within a festival, over the space of 5 days. As well as screening INFECTED and THE INERTIA VARIATIONS along with Gerard Johnson's TONY and HYENA – and his stage play adaptation of 'The Offence' with their cousin, Peter Ferdinando – THE THE had an INERTIA VARIATIONS art installation displayed at Summerhall. Film maker Danny Stoker and interviewer Simon Dell caught up with MATT JOHNSON in Summerhall for their Leer & Rental Interviews. Here MATT discusses his early influences and inspirations. Simon Dell had set up the Facebook group 'Thomas Leer and Robert Rental - the pride of the Clyde' which Danny Stoker, the nephew of Robert Rental discovered and offered to help. The results from this collaboration would go on to hold a 'Leer & Rental' exhibition and spawn a series of interviews which THE SUMMERHALL INTERVIEWS was part of.
