From their 'Guilty until proven insane' LP, 'Women in uniform' is one of Skyhooks best known tracks. Released in 1978, the song spent a month in the Top 10, reaching #8. The track has been famously covered by metal band Iron Maiden, and Aussie indie hero Tim Freedman and the Whitlams, Skyhooks were largely a 70's phenomenon, although they continued to record with different members, and score hits into the next decades, it was the 'Shirley' Strachan era that best typifies the sound and success of the band. They were simply everywhere in the 1970's - rarely off the charts and their risque image and lyrical content made them local heroes. 'Women in Uniform' was the last major hit for the band with Shirley's lead vocal until their comeback and reformation with original band members in the early 90's when 'Jukebox in Siberia' hit the top spot on the Aussie charts.
