This is a short film made during a 10km hike. The intention was to experiment with a marching kit ensemble designed around an overnight camp by a little-used river crossing. Rivers and, more importantly, their crossing points made ideal entry points into the Roman Empire and all the main ones were guarded by castra or patrolled by riverine craft. The smaller rivers which marked old tribal boundaries or re-entrants into more lawless areas would see small patrols or individual scouts watching them on an infrequent basis in case war bands or fleeing slaves attempted to slip past the main castra. That is the idea behind the hike. I walked in full kit and only carried a camera tripod and the Nikon D700 to film moments as I went. There is no real story or narrative here. This is more a mood piece or an ambient piece. I reacted to the environment and it prompted small scenes or vignettes as I went.
