A 19-minute time-lapse video of Doris Ettlinger demonstrating a variety of watercolor techniques. Beginning with a loose wet-in-wet application of Indian Yellow, techniques include wet on dry, lost edges, glazing, negative painting, and spattering. The pigments used are listed in the video. The foliage in the painting is a mix of various yellows and blues but no green pigment, a good way to avoid monotonous vegetation. The challenge in a painting like this is to focus on a few foreground leaves and stems and avoiding the rabbit hole of copying a photo. The demonstration was live-streamed for members of the Musconetcong Watercolor Group. Inquire about weekly classes and weekend workshops by emailing doris@. (All classes are virtual.) Keyboard improvisations by Ben McFadden accompany the video.
