The royal party visit Cecil Rhodes’ grave in Motopo (?), Southern Rhodesia. We see them walking up a steep hill to the grave. C/U of the gravestone. Princess Elizabeth makes her first public appearance alone at the opening of a new graving (?) dock in East London. Shots of cheering crowds and of the royal standard flag. The international flag is unfurled - it flies next to the Union Jack. C/U of the Princess making a speech. Panning shot of children waving flags and cheering. The Frigate Transvaal bursts the white tape at the entrance to the dock. The wife of South Africa’s Transport Minister gives Princess Elizabeth a gift - diamonds. Zululand - gathering of tribesmen.
