Maeshiro Morinobu Sensei demonstrating some simple exercises with the Kakete Biki at the Shidokan Hombu Dojo in Okinawa (Circa 2001). Presently we do all the same exercises but with a partner as a warm up at the Shidokan Musei Juku Dojo (Maeshiro Sensei’s Home Dojo). As Motobu Choki Sensei once said: “Kata is but a template (guideline), but its application is what must be mastered“. Hence the importance of partnered work and training, which we never fail to do under Maeshiro Sensei’s tutelage.
