Today's video is a care guide and species profile on the Nicaraguan cichlid, also known as the Macaw cichlid. I have a female Nicaraguan cichlid in my 75 gallon aquarium, and I think its an underrated cichlid in this hobby. Nicaraguan cichlids are from Central America, and due to their temperament and size, they are compatible tank mates with many American cichlids. Some tank mate options that will usually work well are Jack Dempsey's, Convicts, Firemouths, Severums, Geophagus, Veija, and larger barbs or tetras. They have great color as well, showing blues, reds, and yellows, with the female actually being more colorful than the males. They're a great cichlid to keep, and one that I would highly recommend! *NEW* Merch - Care Guides: If you're interested in any of the products used in our aquariums today, feel free to check out the affiliate links below.
