Imagine opening a restaurant in a deserted area in a small beachside town. Imagine opening it in your 50s after raising your five children -- that is exactly what Lina Campisi did. Lina is the chef/owner of Taverna La Cialoma, located in the picturesque town of Marzamemi on the southwest coast of Sicily. I had the opportunity to sit down with Lina and talk about her experience and how she feels about her “second act“ of opening Taverna La Cialoma. I have several highlights of this interview: first, I understood 90% of what Lina said based on my Spanish and even tried speaking Italian! Second, as a woman in my 40s, Lina's passion for starting over in her career later in life and creating such an extraordinary place moved me. It's never too late to work on something that brings you happiness! Taverna La Cialoma has garnered a following not only in the region but also in welcoming guests like Madonna and George Clooney. I've dined twice at the restaurant and it's like dining at someone's home who picked every ingredient by hand. I recommend you come hungry so you can indulge with a primi serving of pasta followed by their fresh seafood. If you're traveling in southwest Sicily, I recommend you stop by!
