Mandolin Mondays #205: This week on Mandolin Mondays, Russian mandolinist and dormist phenom Ekaterina Skliar treats us to a piece by the great Victor Kioulaphides played on her Gibson A-9. Winner of the 2019 Astral Auditions, Ekaterina Skliar debuted with the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Buryatia Republic at age 11 and went on to perform with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles in her native Russia. A prizewinner of many international and all-Russian competitions, she was also awarded a Silver Medal Global Music Award for her domra solo recording. She appeared in solo recitals and with chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout the U.S. and Russia, including Kaleidoscope Orchestra, Trans-Siberian Art Festival, and gypsy folk string ensemble “Lendvay & Friends”. She studied at M. Glinka Novosibirsk Conservatory (Russia) and now bases herself out of Philadelphia, PA. You can check out more about the composer of this piece here at Victor’s homepage:
