Developed by Manfred Trenz, Andreas Escher, Chris Hulsbeck and Ramiro Vaca, this game really deserves a higher score than the 72% that Zzap 64 magazine gave it (although they had big gripes with the tape multi-loader; I used the disk version so was spared any pain on that front). If anyone watched my Katakis video, you'll see the resemblance. Although Katakis is a better game, R-Type is a lot more controllable due to the slower pace of the action, so I actually enjoyed it a lot more. The only complaint is the fact you have to replay the entire level from scratch if you die. Not a big problem for tool-assisted emulators, but this would have been horrible back on a real C64.
