Off-Grid, Alaskan Log Cabin, Sauna Project - Part 1: Log Siding

This past summer I begin building a wood-fired sauna and shower house at my remote, off-grid cabin. The sauna is perched on the edge of a 300 foot-high bluff overlooking the lake, and is surrounded by blueberries and glaciers. It is close to completion. In this video I am working to install the exterior log siding on the sauna. Next summer, when the weather is warmer, I will apply a penetration log oil to the siding to protect it from the rains. The Inside is not yet complete and I also still need to build some exterior stairs. These projects will be featured in some of my future videos. I get a lot of questions about how I get electricity at this off-grid cabin. There is no power grid within 75 miles of this location, and it is quite remote. I get all my power from a small, portable 2200 watt Honda generator. I run the generator only a few hours a day when I need electricity, otherwise I use lanterns, oil lamps and candles for lighting.
