Evgeni Finkelstein plays ’Les Voix humaines’ (The Human Voice) piece for viola da gamba from the ’Pieces for 1 and 2 viols, Book II’ (1701) by Marin Marais (1656–1728). Marin Marais was a master of the viol (viola da gamba), and the leading French composer of music for the instrument. In 1676 he was hired as a musician to the royal court of Versailles. Evgeni Finkelstein is an outstanding Russian master of classical guitar. His playing is marked by wonderful sound, extraordinary fineness and intense musical expression.
