A combined effort of experts in underwater robotics and fish biology revealed how fish react to the intrusion in a Norwegian aquaculture facility with 188 000 salmon. Salmon were more likely to swim slower and closer to a small flipper-propelled U-CAT robot than a thruster-driven underwater robot or a human diver. Their work, been first on animal-robot interaction in field conditions, provides also a practical method to improve underwater robot designs for aquaculture solutions. Video: Maarja Kruusmaa
